Freedom From Expression with Botox Cosmetic®

Facial Aesthetic Center - Friday, July 10, 2015

Botox has been around for many years. Yet there are still people who are afraid to try it, usually because they don’t understand the details. Since there is a lot of incorrect and scary information out there, we are ready to set the record straight and help you become comfortable in your decision to have Botox.

Botox Cosmetic® has been FDA approved for use in the Glabeller lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows, known as frown lines or 11’s) since 2002. It became the first and only product to receive FDA approval for crow’s feet in 2013. Botox cosmetic® is a prescription medicine that is injected into the muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles in the frown lines and crow’s feet. But what does that really mean? Put simply, Botox Cosmetic is a purified protein made for cosmetic use to relax fine lines and wrinkles. So let’s put a few of the myths out there to rest.

Myth # 1 Botox is toxic to the body.

False: A highly trained doctor or injector would not inject something that that is toxic into your body. Botox is a material that is found in nature, and is completely safe when used in the proper doses. Botox is a localized injection and doesn’t move much further than a centimeter from the injection site, so it stays where it is put. Always consult with your doctor about the proper dosage, and possible side effects.

Myth # 2 Botox is permanent and I will look frozen.

False: The effects of Botox can take 2-10 days to set in, and last about 3-4 months. During this time your body is slowly metabolizing the protein and muscle movement will gradually return. When a proper consultation is done and the recommended dosage is given the look will be natural and relaxed. The current FDA and Allergan recommendation for Glabeller lines is 20 units, and crow’s feet 24 units, for a total of 44 units.

Myth # 3 Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all the same thing.

False: While these three products are designed to give similar results, they are not the same. The major differences include the company they are made by, the way they are manufactured, the particular type of botulinumium toxin used, and the dosage.

At The Facial Aesthetic Center we use Botox Cosmetic® for 3 important reasons; it is precise, predictable, and it has the highest patient satisfaction of all the products on the market. Over 11 million treatments have been performed since 2002 for frown lines, and it is approved in over 78 countries for aesthetic use. As always, consult your doctor about the proper dosage, possible side effects, and desired results.
